Extended Emission by Dust in the Dwarf Galaxy Ugc 10445
We present Spitzer Space Telescope images of the isolated dwarf galaxy UGC 10445. The galaxy is detected at all photometric bands (3.6-160 µm) as well as in the Multiband Imaging Photometer for Spitzer (MIPS) spectral energy distribution mode (55-95 µm). We derive a star formation rate of 0.25 M ⊙ yr −1 based on Hα and infrared flux densities. There is over 10 6 M ⊙ of cold dust (T ∼ 18 K) in t...
متن کاملHI observations towards the Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal galaxy
We have measured the λ21 cm line of Galactic H i over more than 50 square degrees in the direction of the Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal galaxy. The data show no evidence of H i associated with the dwarf spheroidal which might be consider analogous to the Magellanic Stream as it is associated in both position and velocity with the Large Magellanic Cloud. Nor do the H i data show evidence for any ...
متن کاملA dwarf galaxy with a giant HI disk
We present Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope (GMRT) HI 21cm images of a nearby dwarf irregular galaxy NGC 3741 (MB ∼ −13.13) which show it to have a gas disk that extends to ∼ 8.3 times its Holmberg radius. This makes it probably the most extended gas disk known. Our observations allow us to derive the rotation curve (which is flat in the outer regions) out to ∼38 optical scale lengths. NGC 3741 ...
متن کاملRegular magnetic fields in the dwarf irregular galaxy NGC 4449
We present a high-resolution VLA study of the total power and polarized radio continuum emission at 8.46 and 4.86 GHz of the irregular galaxy NGC 4449, known for its weak rotation and non-systematic gas motions. We found strong galaxy-scale regular magnetic fields, which is surprising because of a lack of ordered rotation required for the dynamo action. The strength of the regular field reaches...
متن کاملThe Dwarf Irregular Galaxy UGC 7636 Exposed: Stripping at Work in the Virgo Cluster.
We present the results of optical spectroscopy of a newly discovered H ii region residing in the H i gas cloud located between the dwarf irregular galaxy UGC 7636 and the giant elliptical galaxy NGC 4472 in the Virgo Cluster. By comparing UGC 7636 with dwarf irregular galaxies in the field, we show that the H i cloud must have originated from UGC 7636 because (1) the oxygen abundance of the clo...
